Painted eggs as a sacral attribute of Easter celebrations Coloured and painted eggs are an important sacral attribute of Easter celebrations in Belarus. Tradition of painting eggs till folk spring fests that preceded Easter is one of the most ancient types of folk painting. This tradition is preserved and transmitted in Sapockin village (Hrodna district, Western Belarus). The main burrier of traditional painting is Antanina Jurchenia, who learnd the technology from her own mother and now teaches children and adults from her region. Painting is made by a stick with a little nail using melted wax. Then the egg is put into colouring solute. The parts of the egg covered by wax remain white, that creates a decorative eeffect.
